Legal document, 1864.

The collection consists of a complaint by plaintiff Huston Clinton against four defendants, John M. Shawhan, William Miller, Daniel B. Culley, and Jacob Beckner. In the document Clinton contended that the four fraudently acquired a two-hundred dollar bounty that belonged to him. Clinton alleges that he was entitled to the money after he enlisted in the 28th United States Colored Infantry and was credited to the Rush County, Indiana Muster-in-Roll. The suit was filed in Marion County Court of Common Pleas (Number 1014). Three writs were issued, and the complaint was stamped on May 25, 1864.
